Our Leadership‎ > ‎

I’m your Commander Dylan Serrage, SN. I’m a 50T Master Captain with sailing endorsement. My appetite was whetted for boating by sailing in San Francisco Bay one summer many years ago. Since that time I’ve become engaged full force by learning everything I can about boating As one of our squadron’s sailing enthusiasts, I enjoy harnessing the wind to do my bidding. However, this comes with a price. While power boaters are engaged in social frivolity, I’m either under way or fighting the doldrums attempting to make passage to join in. This passion was born out of the economics of my future plans, to sail the world’s oceans in retirement. My wife, Denise, isn’t on board yet. We still have a few years to retirement so wish me luck on convincing her to explore the world from the water. We’ve been boating since 2007, making us relatively new to this recreational activity. We joined Berea Power Squadron that same year.

Here is picture of the boat we owned until the beginning of 2011. She was a Catalina 27 that we owned for 4 years. We struggled with naming her for months because of our desire for something unusual. One day while driving around, we heard Enya sing Orinoco Flow on the radio. The song relates to a South American river and we were reminded of a wonderful vacation where our voyage took us under the Golden Gate Bridge as that song played in the background.

At this time we don’t have a boat. We’re riding jet skis to tide us over. Plans call for purchase of a sailing catamaran. The hope is to get one large enough to support retirement. Until then, have pity on a couple wayfarers.
