2012 Watercraft Registration

I just received notice that my boat needs a registration renewal in the mail today!  Keep in mind that you must register your boat every three years.  All registrations expire on March 1 of the year indicated on the sticker.  So if you have a 2012 sticker, it expires on March 1, 2012.  You will need to renew your registration before you launch this year.  I recommend that everyone register through the mail or online.  Ohio Law requires that you carry the original registration with you on the watercraft.  You must carry the original, you can not carry a copy!  When you register online or through the mail, the State of Ohio sends you back a plastic card that is about the size of a credit card along with your registration stickers.  When you register at a local Watercraft office, they type up your registration on a piece of paper.  It is much easier to stow the small plastic card then the larger sheet of paper.  The plastic card also has the added benefit of being waterproof and not needing lamination.  If you want to register online you can follow this link to the ODNR renewal page.  Not too many people seem to know this, but the Rodmakers Shoppe in Strongsville is one of the few places in the area that can do Watercraft registrations in person.
