Axis I/O Drive

There is a new type of I/O drive from Caldwell Marine called Axis.  This drive is unique as it mounts the engine at a 45 degree angle, rather then horizontally as a traditional I/O is mounted.  This allows for great space in the cockpit of the boat.  It also allows the manufacturer to build the drive without a U-joint between the drive and the engine.  That should give enhanced service life of the drive.  It seems to me that this drive is targeting the current outboard market, rather then taking over the traditional I/O market.  The drive was designed by XTRAC, the world’s leading race car gearbox manufacturer.  You can learn more on the manufacturers website.
